Your athlete may not practice or tryout on Monday, until you receive an email approving them. This email may come over the weekend or on Monday. REGISTERING FOR A WINTER SPORT - HELPFUL HINTS

  1. There are three different instructions below –New Athletes, Returning Athletes and for the JV Cheer Team.
  2. To participate on Nov. 18th, you must have completed the online registration including uploading a sports physical, have a PlanetHS account, and received an email approving the registration. For the JV Cheer Team, your deadline is Friday, Nov. 1 to attend the clinic on Nov. 4.
  3. Be sure to go all the way through the registration and select the "Submit" button at the end. If you don’t select “Submit,” you won’t be registered.

NEW ATHLETE INSTRUCTIONS

You are a "new athlete" if you:

  • Did not play a sport in Fall 2019 or the 2018-19 school year.
  • Are a new transfer, foreign exchange, or homeschool student.
  • Attend another Jeffco high school that does not offer a certain sport and you did not play on an LHS team last season.

  1. Get a Sports Physical. You will need your sports physical in order to complete the online registration! Physicals are current for 12 months from the date of the last exam
    1. If you don't have a current sports physical, make an appointment with your doctor ASAP. Click here for a form that you can bring to your physician. We also accept any letter or form signed by your doctor.
      1. The Little Clinics at select King Soopers and Walgreens offer drop-in sports physicals.
      2. Also, HealthOne is offering $20 sports physicals at several locations. Click here for a flyer with more information.
    2. Scan or take a picture of the physical and have it ready to upload during Step 4 of the online registration.
  2. Athletes will need a Jeffco Student ID. Students who attend a Jeffco school already have an ID number.
    1. If your student attended pre-school, kindergarten, or any grade at a Jeffco school years ago, they already have a Jeffco ID. Please contact Mrs. DeVito and she can look-up that number. Call 303-982-7114. Do not create another Jeffco account!
    2. If you are certain your student never attended a Jeffco school, you will need to obtain your ID by creating an account using JeffcoConnect. For your school, select Jeffco Central Services and DO NOT SELECT LAKEWOOD HIGH. Click here for that program.
  3. Register Online.
    1. Click on the Football Icon at the bottom of this page. You will answer a few questions to create a Family account.  Then the system will immediately send an email with a link to continue the registration. If you don't see the email from Lakewood High Online Registration, look in your junk mail.
    2. Click on the link. It will bring you to the seven-part registration form. In Section 4, you will upload your sports physical. If the site won't accept your physical, send an email to Mrs. DeVito and attach the file. If the system won't let you move forward without uploading a physical, just upload a blank sheet of paper or a note to Mrs. DeVito stating to look for your email.
    3. Move from section to section  by selecting "Next Page." To finish, be sure you get to the screen where you "Submit" the registration. If you don't "Submit," you won't be registered.
    4. Dual Sports: If you intend to play two sports at the same time (i.e. Swim& Dive and Ski Team), you will need to register twice, and submit a completed Dual Sport form to Mrs. DeVito, found in the forms section above.
  4. Create a PlanetHS account for the student.  PlanetHS is used by CHSAA to collect eligibility information. All Colorado athletes must have an account. (Last year it was known as Arbiter Athlete.) This is a one-time sign-up. Only the student needs an account. Parents don’t need an account unless their student is a transfer athlete.
    1. To create an account, have the student send a TEXT to 69274 containing the code S41573 in the message, OR click here to go to Planet HS and use the code for Lakewood (S41573) when signing up.
    2. Click on the link, answer a few questions and then you are done. It takes less than five minutes. It will look like you need to do something else, but you don’t.
  5. Transfer, Non-Attending & Foreign Exchange Athletes:
    1. Transfer Athletes: If you recently moved into the LHS area, you will need to complete the online Transfer form to determine your eligibility, even if you did not play a sport at your previous school. Follow these instructions:
      1. Have your Student create a PlanetHS account (see Step 4.)
      2. Next, the Parent needs to create a PlanetHS account, and link to their student. Please do it in this order, otherwise the forms will not work.
      3. Select Transfer Form and send it to the Athletic Director at your previous high school.
      4. Contact LHS Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Mike Hughes at 303-982-7094 or via email by clicking here to set up an appointment to discuss your specific situation.
    2. Non-Attending Athletes: If you don't attend LHS, submit "Form 7-Student Athlete Information" (found in the Form section above). Email it to Mrs. DeVito.
    3. Foreign Exchange Students: Please contact Athletic Director Mike Huges to set up a short meeting to complete required paperwork. Call at 303-982-7094 or via email by clicking here
  6. Academic Eligibility: As part of the registration process, we will be looking at grades. If you had two or more "F" grades in the Spring 2019 semester, it will affect your chances of making a team. Also, if you received an "F" grade in any high school class, make sure to speak with your counselor to arrange re-taking the class so that it doesn't interfere with sports eligibility or graduating.
  7. Look for Your Approval Email: Athletes will receive an email within 72 hours of registering (Mondays-Fridays), approving them to practice/tryout or alerting them of any issues.
  8. Pay Your Fees by the Deadline:  A few days after receiving the email, go to the fee section in JeffcoConnect to pay online, or bring a check, cash or credit card to Ms. McElroy, our financial secretary. All athletes need to pay the $175 Jeffco Athletic Fee each time they play a sport, as well as any team fees. Please pay by the deadline below, or make arrangements with Ms. McElroy
    1. Fee Deadline for Non-Cut Sports is Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 (Girls Swim & Dive, Wrestling)
    2. Fee Deadline for Tryout/Cut Sports is Friday, Dec.6, 2019 (Boys and Girls Basketball)
    3. Free & Reduced Lunch Students: Be sure to re-apply to this program each year and select the option to "share your information." Click here for a link to apply. Students on the Free and Reduced Lunch program do not need to pay the $175 fee, however, they must still pay any team fees.

RETURNING ATHLETE INSTRUCTIONS

You are a “Returning Athlete” if you registered to play/try-out for a sport or cheer team at LHS during the 2018-19 school year, or in Fall 2019. Even if you did not make a team, or you quit, your information should still be in the system.

  1. Make sure your physical is current (within the last 12 months). If you have a new physical, you will need to take a picture of it and upload it, like last season. If you are not sure on the date of your last physical, log into the registration site and see what is on file.
    1. If you need a new physical, click here for a form that you can bring to your physician. We also accept any letter or form signed by your doctor.
      1. The Little Clinics at select King Soopers and Walgreens offer drop-in sports physicals.
      2. HealthOne is also offering $20 sports physicals at several locations. Click here for a flyer with more information.
    2. Scan or take a picture of the physical and have it ready to upload during online registration.
  2. Register Online for this Season
    1. Select the "View My Account" button on the top right side of this page. If you don’t remember your username, contact Mrs. DeVito via email.
    2. Once in the system, select the "Register" tab on the left, then "Athletic Registration." Look on the left side and "register" your student from the drop-down menu.  This should bring you to the seven-part registration page.

    4. Go all the way to the end by continuing to select "Next Page," and be sure you get to the screen where you "Submit" your new registration. If you don't "Submit" you won't be registered. On the summary page, you should see at least two registrations - one from last year and one from this year.

  4. Non-Attending Athletes: If you played on an LHS sport team last year, and don't attend LHS, submit "Form 7-Student Athlete Information" (found in the Form section above).
  5. PlanetHS Account:
    1. If you played a sport last year or in the Fall, you have an account.

  3. The deadline to register online is 4:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 1st to guarantee you will be ready for the tryout clinic on Nov. 4th.

FAQs

  • My high school doesn't offer my sport? Can I play at Lakewood? If your school does not offer certain sports, or you are homeschooled, in addition to registering online, you will need to complete "Form 7-Student Athlete Information,"available in the "Other Forms & Handbook" link above. Please bring the form to Mrs. DeVito in person, via fax (303-982-7097) or PDF via email, during registrtion.
  • We just moved into the Lakewood area and my student will begin his sophomore year at Lakewood. What do I need to do? You will need to contact Athletic Director Mike Hughes to set up a short meeting to complete required paperwork. You can call him at 303-982-7094 or via email by clicking here.  Both the athlete and parents will need to create a PlanetHS account, and link their accounts. If your student played a varsity sport at his/her previous high school, they will not be eligible to play a varsity sport at Lakewood for one season. See Step 5 above.
  • Can Foreign Exchange Students participate in sports? YesYou will need to contact Athletic Director Mike Huges to set up a short meeting to complete required paperwork. You can call him at 303-982-7094 or via email by clicking here.
  • My student is on the Free & Reduced Lunch Program. How does that work with sport fees? For one, each year families need to re-apply to the Free & Reduced Lunch Program. One thing to note is that when you complete the form, in the section that asks if your information can be shared, select "yes." This will allow Lakewood's financial secretary to waive the $175 Jeffco Athletic fee. However, families will still be responsible for paying any team fees. Click here to apply to the program.
